May 3, 2010 | USAMacPractice unveils orthodontic contract billing, charting, imaging
by Ortho Tribune
MacPractice, an Apple developer of practice management and clinical software on Macs, iPhones and iPads, supporting 20,000 users in 3,000 offices, is introducing MacPractice DDS MS (multi-specialty) with new orthodontist-specific features. MacPractice DDS MS is multi-specialty dental software. MacPractice DDS may be purchased exclusively with everything that an orthodontist needs to run an orthodontic practice, including contract billing, electronic insurance submission, charting, digital imaging and interfaces to orthodontic specialized imaging analysis and treatment-planning software to create a complete solution for an orthodontic practice. The additional benefit of MacPractice is that a multi-specialty practice, such as a pediatric and orthodontic practice, can share a single database, utilizing a premier application satisfying the requirements of both specialties. For example, software designed for orthodontists does not offer integrated restorative and periodontal tooth charting or digital-imaging solutions suitable for pediatric dentists, general dentists, periodontists, prosthodontists, endodontists or oral surgeons — but MacPractice does, eliminating the need for multiple programs and additional staff and training. MacPractice DR (digital radiography/photo) interfaces with Planmeca cephalometric and panoramic equipment and interfaces with several Mac-native digital sensor solutions, including SuniRay, MyRay’s XPod (wireless, handheld) and Planmeca Pro sensors. And MacPractice bridges to virtually all PC digital dental solutions. MacPractice Ortho Charting utilizes end-user customizable forms created for MacPractice EDR (electronic dental record) with the assistance of MacPractice DDS users. Ortho charting is free with the purchase of MacPractice and EDR. EDR is designed for all specialists to contribute to and benefit from a shared library of forms, minimizing customization cost and encouraging collaboration. Charts can be converted into customizable narrative format and merged into MacPractice Note templates, i.e. treatment plan, contract, referral. Note is an integrated word processor with merging, templates and other useful capabilities. MacSpeech Dictate Medical, which includes a dental vocabulary, facilitates direct dictation into note and EDR Forms. MacPractice DDS costs 50 to 70 percent less than most other orthodontic programs, according to the company. Support is provided by 65 corporate employees. On-site training and installation is available from 40 regional consultants.
